I just decided to give you a taste of the incredible colour in these guys. They are both here during the winter, but the bohemians are here all year, while the RedPolls are winter migrants. Against a snowy background you can see how bright these fellows are, so gray skies and white snow are really not so bad, and are actually a grand background.

Of course, they also appear brighter against basic black.

  2. oh you lucky dog (and his master). i love waxwings and we only get to see the cedar kind very briefly as they migrate thru.

  13. I love waxwings. A couple of months ago there were what appeared to be hundreds of them in the trees where I walk Tucker---I was so taken aback and mesmerized, I completely forgot to take their pictures. Your photos are splendid!

  25. To me the Waxwings are one of the most beautiful birds. They are here in the fall to just eat berries and then off they go in big gangs. Super shot of all the birds. MB
