Whimsy At The Vermilon River. A Post To MWT.

Plagued with bad weather and the flu, these are some of my favourite photos. Opposite is a photo of the rapids. It is so cold the frost and snow are having no difficulty adhering to the brush or rocks.

This is the best depiction of the true colour of the water here. Usually it takes the colour of the sky which is misleading. But the water is a beautiful copper colour.

This photo captures the overcast winter sky, turning the photo to almost a sepia tone. The winter sky here is either overcast or a high blue.

The ice on the trees brings the branches to life with light reflection.

The reflection creates fairy lights in the forest.

In this photo the ice is like small diamonds. If you click on the photos you'll see the highlights.

You can attract Red Squirrels just by standing still. After they've finished chattering, they stay still.

This guy has something really interesting. These squirrels eat seeds, and bury them in caches, called middens. I think this guy has been in one of his caches.

Blue Jays will pose also. But you have to put up with a lecture first.

See how well they pose.

But they're also terribly pensive.

One of the commentators in reference to Redpolls and Chickadees wrote that he was amazed how these small birds could tolerate the cold. These Goldfinch survive the same cold. But notice how they're small also.
