Winter scenes and Wildlife of The Vermilon River.

These photos were taken over three days, mostly overcast except for one day. You'll notice the difference in the background. The clear day is of course colder than the overcast day. All the scenes are taken along the River. Opposite: the far bank.

Redpolls that visit here divide into Common and Hoary. The Hoary's have white chests and backs. I've identified the Hoary's, or at least the ones I think that are Hoary's.

  1. Can't say I've seen a hoary redpoll around here at craftygardener.ca, but then I haven't quite figured out all the differences between redpolls. Nice series of photos

  15. Nice series of photos, Gary. I don't suppose you see a goldfinch this time of year too often. Nice to see some shots of the Hoary Redpoll. We have had a good flock of Common Redpolls in the yard for a few weeks, and occasionally I see a few Hoary Redpolls with them. They're sure taking care of the niger seed.

  16. Lovely photos of the birds and snow! They always look so cold. You wonder how they manage to survive out there in all that snow and find something to eat or keep warm.

  50. What a change in the seasons since I visited last. Sorry it has been such a long absence, I am really ,really grateful for you comments in the meantime.
I love your snowscapes and all your winter birds.
How are you and Boomer doing, I do worry a little since none of us are getting any younger. We have sustained so many losses in family and four legged friends that I'm skittish as a wild horse in a cage.
Happy New Year to you both!

  51. I love the snow because i haven't experienced them. Those birds seem to be feeling cold and sad too. You should see my post in my other blog Pure Oxygen Generators, because i posted it for my blogger friends in the temperate climes. Thanks for your visit in my sites.

  52. Such lovely winter light. (I have to say that the one mourning dove all huddled up looks like I probably would if I were there!)....The slide show was particularly great this week..I could see the expressions on many of the birds faces.
