Summer colours at The Vermilon River

This is another really long post; so click any photo for the slide show. But first a couple of points. Re: the bear. Now own up to it all who admitted to fear and trepidation. You would have done what I did: taken as many photos as possible.(Besides running from a bear is about the worse thing you can do.) At lunch at the restaurant over fresh caught pickerel, out of cold local lake waters, or an omelet, with cameras on the table, we would have toasted with a fine Canadian white, or a micro brewed ale ( no light US stuff for we hikers) our wood lore, praised our camera ability, and decided where to hike tomorrow. Canada has about 18,000 km of hiking trails known as the the Trans-Canada Trail, although it's not all complete yet. They vary from wilderness, such as where I am to easier trails in the south. Also, the strange moth in the last post turned out to be a clear wing, a  moth that feeds on nectar just like a Hummingbird, and is known as the "Hummingbird Moth".

  1. Such a wealth of beauty you show us again Gary. The plant you have called Laurel, is a Kalmia latifolia and sometimes capped the calico bush, as the paler pink version (which I have in my garden) looks like the pink calico young girls used to wear in days of old.
So many lovely wild roses and plants I remember from our Canadian days.
