Spring Colours At The Vermilon River

We've been in warm weather,25-28C, and have suddenly plunged to a freezing rain warning this morning with a cold weekend in store. Strangely, there are no insects (blackflies, mosquitoes) in the woods. This time of year I would normally be in gloves and netting. This post is long, so click and watch the slide show. Opposite: Evening Grosbeak with green beak, a summer change.

A post to:Id Rather Be Birdin,Our World Tuesday,and WBW.

Just a quick note on Boomer: He seems to do quite well on his home made food with the vitamin ,mineral supplement. If you're comtemplating home food, make sure you look at the web sites especially the one dealing with the change over.

I think these two are a male and female Cowbird deep in a black spruce stand. I was shooting up the west side of the River using my 150-500mm, and should have  changed to the 70-300mm, a faster shooting lens more suitable to a lack of light in the stand.
The Evening Grosbeaks suddenly showed up at my feeders. Remember it's about 100 feet to the woods.

Glare on the wetlands is another problem as shown here. The turtle's reflection is sharper than his actual image. The turtle is a midland red.

  54. As a 'foreigner' I'm not influenced by what of your birds might be common or what might be rare. I just find so many f them to look exotic! The spectacular ones here are the Evening Grossbeak, the Purple Finch, and the Red-winged Blackbird (all males, of course!). However, that Grackle, catching the sun is just amazing. All beautifully captured! Thank you for sharing.

Best wishes to you and Boom.

  60. Spring has been very strange this year. We also had heat, then cold and now it's warm again. It feels like the warblers are arriving late...but that might be because I'm anxious to see them.
