Cedar Waxwings, Elegant and Candid, of The Vermilon River. A Post to World Bird Wednesday.
The first photos are of course examples of the sheer elegance of these birds, even when viewed from the rear as number 3 is. The last 2 seem so out of character, but I guess I caught him just out of his bath in the river. Not much more needs to be said, does it?

Very nice Waxwings. Still waiting to see our UK equivalents.
ReplyDeleteI sure hope you get to see them, Adam.
ReplyDeleteWOW!!!! You really have that Nikon smokin' hot. "Elegant" is exactly the right word to describe these birds. I have been trying to find the correct berry bushes to plant along the river to attract them in. I love that they flock. I'd guess you have five different birds here.
ReplyDeleteThanks again for your great help getting WBW started and helping to nurture it along. Can you believe its week VIII?
Yup, they're all different except for the last 2 which are the same. Plant crabapple trees, you'll get them. Thanks Springman.
ReplyDeleteI love these little guys, they look like bandits with the masks around their eyes. They pass through our area so quickly I have to be lucky to catch sight of them before they move on.
ReplyDeleteThey are beauties Martha Z.
ReplyDeleteSuperb birds Gary, and lovely pictures.
ReplyDeleteWe currently have hundreds of the Bohemian Waxwing over here. Simply stunning; both types.
One of my favorites. We see so few of them here, I really get excited when they show up, and never can get very good pictures of them. Yours are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteB.
You're right - that is a very elegant bird but I guess it takes time and effort to achieve that elegance!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful birds Gary. Very well captured.

ReplyDeleteGary, Outstanding captures! Some of the best I have ever seen!!! I love these birds. They also love Holly berries and bathing.
ReplyDeleteHi Jean. You and me both. The wet shots are from the river trail so he has just been in for a dip and the trail is lined with berry trees.

ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures. One time we had cedar waxwings in our yard (in Oregon before we sold our stick house there)...we only saw them that once -- we were told that they vary their migration patterns every year.
