Snow Covered River
Still fascinated by the gray light. Effectively, the snow is the brightest feature thus lighting the scene. And again I don't find the gray depressing at all. The Vermilon River begins its life in Shining tree about 2-300 miles north of here and meanders its way through my area later turning into several rivers with different names, a lake named Vermilon lake,and becomes part of the Spanish river eventually draining into Lake Huron.

Several people have written that they wouldn't mind rambling through this area.My limit is about a 10 mile radius, about 3 miles out and 3 miles back mostly because I'm lame, and any more and I'm pushing it. Most of the land is crown land (government land), RR right of way, with some mining areas, not many. The point I'm making is that with no physical limitations you could hike for miles using trails and old forest roads, or the river and its many wetlands using a canoe. Yup, you could pan for gold and find some colour but don't give up your day job. There are a multitude of lakes, most uninhabited, some of which I'll explore with you as I did my immediate wetlands( see earlier posts). The bulk of the locals are both uncomfortable,and find no beauty in this extraordinary forest. You won't see anybody except on the weekends when they ride their ATV's. Your company will be the wildlife-animals, and birds which are wild, some of which are quite large. It's not a park or game preserve, it's the real forest. Sound appealing; so how far can you hike, and how much time do you have?

    The river is very lovely in this light. The snow hwlps a lot. How interesting that the river is still flowing, not frozen.

    I'm about to look for a map to find out the general area where you are. :)

    I do love pictures of frozen water. The ice on the edges has such wonderful shapes.

    Great river shots. "Snow Covered River" is cool, because it is snow covered. But my favorite is "River Bend" where you can see the entire width of the river. Makes me curious as to its origin and where it is going. Thanks! I too would love to explore your area but that is likely not to happen any time soon!

    These pictures look like they should be on a Christmas Card! I think there is nothing more beautiful then the gray and white....so peaceful!
    Thank you for stopping by my blog. I took that picture in Lille France about a week before Christmas. I thought the water freezing out of a drain pipe was pretty interesting and really showed how cold it really has been. But now I am in Portugal on the Algarve! Much warmer here!
