Toadflax

Toadflax

Common Milkweed

Fireweed

Red Clover

Wood Lily

Since we just had our first blizzard of the season which is certainly late, I thought it appropriate to hark back to summer and post these flowers on My World Tuesday. We had about 25cm. of snow with a wind chill temp of -17 degrees C . The snow drifts were so deep that I had to shovel out a path for Boom and I, and then we couldn't get very far, certainly not into the forest which is only a short distance. So join me in the warmth of summer and let's look at these amazing wildflowers, or what some may call weeds.
Toadflax is usually called eggs and butter. I don't really know what the next one is, but I'll keep working at identifying it. Milkweed surprised me in that it is attractive in this stage. Fireweed gets its name by its quick growth after a forest area has been burnt over. It is a natural part of the regeneration process. This photo depicts its actual colour (hard to reproduce), and it is quite startling to walk into a clearing full of it. Its seed is a long fibre amazingly like silk to the feel. Just as an aside, forest  fires are common here; there were 38 burning at one time this year, because of the dry summer. Red clover is common to the area. The wood lily is a little tired, but it was growing at the edge of a wetland and caught my eye.
