The first photo is the second beaver hutch. The second photo is the first hutch showing an open path in the ice to the hut. Still no Beavers!! So what did I see and photograph?

  5. Really close, but not exotic enough for the likes of Greta Garbo.

  7. Hilke, You're absolutely right. I wondered if you would get it because the fisher, not a cat at all, is being re- introduced into some New England states, Vermont being one them, to control a porcupine problem. They're kissing cousins of the marten, and the wolverine.Hence they've got a bad rep as a really tough predatory. In fur trade days they were sold as sable to rival the sables of Russia. No-one seemed to know why they're called Fisher Cats in the U.S. If you go on the web you can hear some recordings of their screams.

  8. Thanks Julian. Hilke did well to get it.

  9. Gary, I have seen fisher cats in our neighborhood. One seems to use the stonewall bordering our property as highway. That's one of the reasons why I never let me little dog go out by herself in the evening, the other being coyotes that live on a hill across from us. We sometimes hear their ungodly howling at night. I didn't know that the fur of the fisher cat was so popular at some time - only read about it on Wikipedia.org

  10. As big as Boom is Hilke I wouldn't want him to tangle with a fisher, a marten,a wolverine or a wolf.
