Spring on the Vermilon River. A Post to Camera Critters

The Open River

Close Up of Open Water
More areas in the river are continuing to open up.

Close Up
Canada Geese arrive, but the RedPolls are still hanging on. It's sort of a mix of spring and winter.

Robin
If RedPolls are a winter visitor then the Robin is an early sign of summer.

Ring-billed Gull

The Gulls seem to be around all the time but move closer to the water as the ice melts.
Northern Crow
Isn't he the perfect guy to say: " Have a good day!!"

  2. Very, very nice! Just love seeing the thaw and the birds enjoying it, too.

  3. These are great shots!!! I never tire of your redpolls (or crows and ravens). That male redpoll is gorgeous!

  4. Your photos always bring peace. Love the redpoles brightness. Spring bird color is a blessing.

  5. Opening up but still in need of a major meltdown I see. :)
I just love those RedPolls every time you post them. These shots have great clarity.
You might want to add, 'I dare you' to the crows greeting. They are so ominious I think.

  6. It looks like it's the winner, it's the Redpolls.

  7. The Redpolls are such beauties. I like the one of the Robin in the tree and the Crow looks menacing. What a capture! Great to see y'all are thawing out.

  8. Ha I've been complaining that it's cold here (in the 50's) and you've got tons of snow on the ground!

  12. The Redpolls look stunning. It is strange to see so much snow still around too.

  13. It's so strange to see spring shots with snow, but I would love to walk there, even with the cold, because the place is gorgeous! Wonderful bird photos too.

  19. I just spent a very enjoyable time getting caught up on your posts. Loved the waxwings, as we don't get them around here. And, that crow! What a fine fellow he is. I don't have much luck getting closeups of the crows around here. One flicker of movement, and they're gone.

  20. The Bomenians are food loyal so you may get them.

  21. Beautiful birds Gary!! One blogger I read (Lady Fi) called this season "springter'...the time when winter and spring compete to see which will rule" I hope spring wins at your house! But your in-between season pictures are beautiful in the meantime. That crow really looks as if he is ready to speak. (I've heard that they can be trained to do so; I'm sure they're smart enough).

  22. The crow looks like a burly tough guy. :)
