More Scenes and Wildlife of the Vermilon River. A Post To SWF.

We've had our first frost,so Indian summer is fast upon us. The weather people have forecast at least another three weeks of warm weather. The scenes are from hikes along the River and the beaver pond.

The mornings are still cool,so the mist continues. Here it makes the ridge appear like a double image.
Same with tundra in the forefront.

Same but looking toward the hydro pole lines.

Rapids with little island.

Beaver pond reflection.

Beaver lodge on the left.

Flight Scramble.

Wood ducks on the big wetland.

Same only closer.

Raven in flight.

Swamp Sparrow

Swamp Sparrow.

The Blue Jays are coming out of the forest foraging for food now, a sure sign of fall.

Chickadee

Female Purple Finch.

These little guys fled into the wetland at my approach. I thought they were sparrows, but they're female Yellow Rumped Warblers.

Unknown Insect.

I've now taken to photographing insects in flight. I think this is a moth.
Same-look at those wings go

Fleabane?

These yellow flowers are almost past their prime, but every year I see them in the woods without knowing what they are.
As I said earlier, we don't have a lot of maple, but they sure are bright. The ones below are a different red, all the result I think of the chemical reaction in the leaf,
Maple

Red Squirrel.

This Red Squirrel along with a chipmunk, and another squirrel live in the forest directly behind us. They frequently visit much to the enjoyment of the in door cats who live on both sides of us.

Please note that I've added a translator in the side bar.

  33. Beautiful scenes Gary. Even though we haven't had our first frost here, I notice a distinct change in the air at the close of August and opening of September. Your beautiful scenery will be even more exquisite in Fall, my favourite season.
