The first photo shows the older hutch with the new hutch in the background. The second photo again shows activity in the pond. Obviously, this is a good site to watch for beaver which I have been doing unsuccessfully all summer.
There is an ice skim on the pond which you can see.
Carried over: As an independent fur trader in the 17th century you unload your trade goods and make a dry camp. Realizing you forgot your paddles you return to the canoe pleasantly surprised to find no porcupines have chewed the handles looking for salt from your sweat. You're still wary because the previous night's stillness was broken with screams, certainly not those of a vixen red fox, but something else. You check the flints in your musket and pistols, and re-prime the pans;eat some some jerky and try to sleep with one eye open.
ReplyDeleteI tried out a flint lock rifle that was built to replicate the weapons used by fur traders and for the life of me I do not see how they were that much of an advantage over a bow and arrow.
ReplyDeleteBut when you hear that scream you may need that flintlock
