An Invitation from Boom & Me to A Tour Of A Vermilon River Beaver Pond.

What's He Up To Now?
I'll start the tour with the initial post on wednesday night (17th) at 7 p.m. EST, post on thursday night sametime, and friday night sametime. Saturday night I'll post photos of the animals. I timed it this way to give readers from S.E. Asia a chance to check the site on the weekend.

  3. Is Boomer a pretty head-strong dog? He is really beautiful, but must be a handful.

  4. Actually just the opposite. Boomer was given to me by the breeder, because I had just lost another dog. Boom had been purchased by a couple who divorced and handed him onto one of the parents who had small dogs so he was chained outside. Finally the SPCA picked him up, and the breeder bailed him out but could not return him to the pack. Boom is an Alaskan Malamute, and they're about as close you're going to get to wolf in a domestic dog. They're not territorial they're pack dogs and he would have had to fight his way through the pack. So she kept him as a house dog along with some females. After getting him I had my accident and again it was trouble for boom. I could not have a pulling dog, and a good friend took him and trained him to the haltie that you see. Boom now heels but not too close to me,as well he plods so he does not pull, and on ice on the command steady we inch forward. He will stand and not move, and sometimes I pull myself up with his weight. Malamutes are not known for any of this. With the bear Boom stepped in between me and her and the cubs and she left. They are extremely quiet, no barking but lots of talking and he's great company although I don't take him with me when its too hot or its hunting season. He just looks too wolfie, and hunters are nto too bright. He is fond of children and partial to women. I think because men are naturally afraid of him. If you ever get the chance to read Oskar a Greenlander Husky of the early Australain antartic expeditions or Susan Conant's mystery series set in Cambridge Mass with Malamutes as the dog heroes, it will tell you more about these guys. If you ever get the change to have one take it but read the books they're totally different from other dogs.
